The worst sin that can be committed against the artist is to take him at his word to see in his work a fulfillment instead of an horizon.

You must learn day by day year by year to broaden your horizon. The more things you love the more you are interested in the more you enjoy the more you are indignant about the more you have left when anything happens.

Ours is the century of enforced travel of disappearances. The century of people helplessly seeing others who were close to them disappear over the horizon.

The swimmer adrift on the open seas measures his strength and strives with all his muscles to keep himself afloat. But what is he to do when there is no land on the horizon and none beyond it?

If I have been of service if I have glimpsed more of the nature and essence of ultimate good if I am inspired to reach wider horizons of thought and action if I am at peace with myself it has been a successful day.

One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.
