Councils of war breed timidity and defeatism.

Whether you come from a council estate or a country estate your success will be determined by your own confidence and fortitude.

That's what I'd like to do on the President's Council. Make sports and athletics available to every youth in America not just one day a week like it was for me but every day.

Together often by unanimous vote the council has worked quickly to get positive results.

When you come from desperate poverty and that's exactly what I come from you know that nonsenses are not to be tolerated. I'm not sure who gains from chaos but I know it's not the poor folks in the council flats. The politics of vindictiveness is never ever anything like a solution.

The United Nations will be at the heart of our international activities. France will assume its full responsibilities at the Security Council by putting its status at the service of peace respect for human rights and development.

Peace is not made at the council table or by treaties but in the hearts of men.

The purposes of the United States should not be doubted. The Security Council resolutions will be enforced - the just demands of peace and security will be met - or action will be unavoidable. And a regime that has lost its legitimacy will also lose its power.
