My family comes first. Maybe that's what makes me different from other guys.

If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference. They are the father the mother and the teacher.

Mr. Speaker I am deeply concerned that many regions of this world are suffering from the effects of armed conflicts with religious aspects. I believe that the differences of faith are not the real reason for these conflicts.

It's really important to say this. Often the faith schools were founded before the state provided education. I want good education in this country so I'm not going to slag off faith schools. I think that it's important that people of different backgrounds and different faiths go to school together and many faith schools do that.

There is a split between Muslims who want to practice their faith in peace and tolerance with other religions and other people and these extreme radical fundamentalists who have shown a total lack of tolerance for people with different views starting with people who they don't think are good Muslims and going on to include Christians and Jews.

I think the issue of clergy sexual abuse sparked people to look at their faith in a different way.

Great dislike to the Bible was shown by those who conversed with me about it and several have remarked to me at different times that if it were not for that book Catholics would never be led to renounce their own faith.

It is from the traditional family that we absorb those universal ideals and principles which are the teaching of Jesus the bedrock of our religious faith. We are taught the difference between right and wrong and about the law just punishment and discipline.

Science we are repeatedly told is the most reliable form of knowledge about the world because it is based on testable hypotheses. Religion by contrast is based on faith. The term 'doubting Thomas' well illustrates the difference.

We're telling a story. And the demands of that are different from the demands of a documentary. The audience must believe in order to keep faith in the story.
