If there is any principle of the Constitution that more imperatively calls for attachment than any other it is the principle of free thought not free thought for those who agree with us but freedom for the thought that we hate.
Freedom is the right to live as we wish.
Freedom is a possession of inestimable value.
What then is freedom? The power to live as one wishes.
Freedom means the right of people to assemble organize and debate openly.
Freedom is not procured by a full enjoyment of what is desired but by controlling the desire.
Perhaps the fact that we have seen millions voting themselves into complete dependence on a tyrant has made our generation understand that to choose one's government is not necessarily to secure freedom.
I know of no country in which there is so little independence of mind and real freedom of discussion as in America.
We gain freedom when we have paid the full price.
If a nation values anything more than freedom it will lose its freedom and the irony of it is that if it is comfort or money that it values more it will lose that too.
