Religious wars are not caused by the fact that there is more than one religion but by the spirit of intolerance... the spread of which can only be regarded as the total eclipse of human reason.

I'm very interested in religion as something to study but I'm not a religious person in the slightest.

The major obstacle to a religious renewal is the intellectual classes who are highly influential and tend to view religion as primitive superstition. They believe that science has left atheism as the only respectable intellectual stance.

It's one thing to be religious but it's another thing to make religion your policy.

Religious people often prefer to be right rather than compassionate. Often they don't want to give up their egotism. They want their religion to endorse their ego their identity.

The problem with writing about religion is that you run the risk of offending sincerely religious people and then they come after you with machetes.

Religion must mainly be a matter of principles only. It cannot be a matter of rules. The moment it degenerates into rules it ceases to be a religion as it kills responsibility which is an essence of the true religious act.

In nearly every religion I am aware of there is a variation of the golden rule. And even for the non-religious it is a tenet of people who believe in humanistic principles.

I'm religiously opposed to religion.
