I don't want to make films that give you the answer. If there is a message to my films - and I hope there isn't - it's to be open-minded.

My hope is that people will be repulsed by the character's complete lack of ethics and obsession with consumerism - that's what I was saying about the difference between the character's message and the film's message.

'Peace Train' is a song I wrote the message of which continues to breeze thunderously through the hearts of millions. There is a powerful need for people to feel that gust of hope rise up again.

I had in mind a message although I hope it doesn't intrude too badly persuading Americans and especially Southerners of the critical importance of land and our vanishing natural environment and wildlife.

Jewelry and pins have been worn throughout history as symbols of power sending messages. Interestingly enough it was mostly men who wore the jewelry in various times and obviously crowns were part of signals that were being sent throughout history by people of rank.

If the states and territories do not sign up to fundamental reform then my message is equally simple: we will take this reform plan to the people at the next election - along with a referendum by or at that same election to give the Australian Government all the power it needs to reform the health system.

Many smart folks seem to think that if you just get your metaphors and messages right you'll win. That if you start describing what you favor as a 'moral value' - 'affordable health care is a moral value' etc. - then you'll appeal to red-state voters.

Preachers in pulpits talked about what a great message is in the book. No matter what you do somebody always imputes meaning into your books.
