If you lead a country like Britain a strong country a country which has taken a lead in world affairs in good times and in bad a country that is always reliable then you have to have a touch of iron about you.

They wrote in the old days that it is sweet and fitting to die for one's country. But in modern war there is nothing sweet nor fitting in your dying. You will die like a dog for no good reason.

I have no other view than to promote the public good and am unambitious of honors not founded in the approbation of my Country.

As individuals people are inherently good. I have a somewhat more pessimistic view of people in groups. And I remain extremely concerned when I see what's happening in our country which is in many ways the luckiest place in the world. We don't seem to be excited about making our country a better place for our kids.

Anybody can be good in the country. There are no temptations there.

The World is my country all mankind are my brethren and to do good is my religion.

A man who is good enough to shed his blood for the country is good enough to be given a square deal afterwards.

Thank God we're living in a country where the sky's the limit the stores are open late and you can shop in bed thanks to television.

In my country of South Africa we struggled for years against the evil system of apartheid that divided human beings children of the same God by racial classification and then denied many of them fundamental human rights.

And that's really what's happening in this country is a violation of the First Commandment. We have become a country entrenched in idolatry and that idolatry is the dependency upon our government. We're supposed to depend upon God for our protection and our provision and for our daily bread not for our government.
