Animals have a much better attitude to life and death than we do. They know when their time has come. We are the ones that suffer when they pass but it's a healing kind of grief that enables us to deal with other griefs that are not so easy to grab hold of.

The art of healing comes from nature not from the physician. Therefore the physician must start from nature with an open mind.

Trauma happens in relationships so it can only be healed in relationships. Art can't provide healing. It can be cathartic and therapeutic but a relationship is a three-part journey.

'Healing ' Papa would tell me 'is not a science but the intuitive art of wooing nature.'

I hope this will help new moms not feel alone or desperate and that there is no shame in their feelings. PPD is out of their control but the treatment and healing process is not.
