I was surrounded by nature and trying to come to terms with this blissful nature versus the inhumane mentality of war. People were being deluded by someone using the word peace.

There is so much of good in human nature that men grow to like each other upon better acquaintance and this points to another way in which we may strive to promote the peace of the world.

The point of departure of the process to which we wish to contribute is the fact that war is the natural reaction of human nature in the savage state while peace is the result of acquired characteristics.

The methods of peace propaganda which aim at establishing peace doctrine by argument and by creating a feeling favorable to peace in general seem to fall short of reaching the springs of human action and of dealing with the causes of the conduct which they seek to modify.

I think what the Nobel committee is doing is going beyond war and looking at what humanity can do to prevent war. Sustainable management of our natural resources will promote peace.

Our armed forces will fight for peace in Iraq a peace built on more secure foundations than are found today in the Middle East. Even more important they will fight for two human conditions of even greater value than peace: liberty and justice.

Standing as I believe the United States stands for humanity and civilization we should exercise every influence of our great country to put a stop to that war which is now raging in Cuba and give to that island once more peace liberty and independence.

We tried war we tried aggression we tried intervention. None of it works. Why don't we try peace as a science of human relations not as some vague notion - as everyday work.

Every animal has his or her story his or her thoughts daydreams and interests. All feel joy and love pain and fear as we now know beyond any shadow of a doubt. All deserve that the human animal afford them the respect of being cared for with great consideration for those interests or left in peace.

I share the opinion of those of broader vision who see in the signs of the time hope of humanity for peace.
