Well done is better than well said.

You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.

I loved fantasy but I particularly loved the stories in which somebody got out of where they were and into somewhere better - as in the 'Chronicles Of Narnia ' 'The Wizard Of Oz ' 'The Phantom Tollbooth ' the 'Dungeons & Dragons' cartoon on Saturday morning in the '80s.

'Old times' never come back and I suppose it's just as well. What comes back is a new morning every day in the year and that's better.

Somebody said to me this morning 'To what do you attribute your longevity?' I don't know. I mean I couldn't have planned my life out better. By all accounts I should be dead! The abuse I put my body through: the drugs the alcohol the lifestyle I've lived the last 30 years!

If you're the village blacksmith and a model T comes along you better become a mechanic. People's lives are better when they get news online versus having to wait for the morning paper. It's a lot more efficient a lot more real time a lot less waste.

You won't see me in a better mood than 4:00 in the morning on my way to work.

It's a privilege to serve the poor to be servants of noble Africans but I better belong in the rehearsal room or in the studio with my band. That's where I want to be and I still wake up in the morning with melodies in my head.
