My mom was an aesthetician and she went to beauty school back in the '60s. I just remember watching her do her makeup all the time. She always had her nails done makeup on - her face was ready to go when she went out. I loved it.

The thought came to me that all one loves in art becomes beautiful. Beauty is nothing but the expression of the fact that something is being loved. Only thus could she be defined.

Not longer loved or fostered by religion beauty is lifted from its face as a mask and its absence exposes features on that face which threaten to become incomprehensible to man.

Thanks to capitalism the importance placed on beauty has never been so manipulated. We are the guinea pigs force-fed ads that tell us how pathetic we are: that we will never be loved happy or valuable unless we have the body the face the hair even the personality that will apparently be ours if only we buy their products.

I always loved aesthetics. Not particularly fashion but an idea of beauty.

Bob Altman had this relaxed but serious attitude. Everybody loved him. I wanted him to adopt me.
