In the rich world the environmental situation has improved dramatically. In the United States the most important environmental indicator particulate air pollution has been cut by more than half since 1955 rivers and coastal waters have dramatically improved and forests are increasing.

Environmental quality was drastically improved while economic activity grew by the simple expedient of removing lead from gasoline - which prevented it from entering the environment.

The most meaningful engine of change powerful enough to confront corporate power may be not so much environmental quality as the economic development and growth associated with the effort to improve it.

I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth environmental protection improvements in our educational system.

We assume that everything's becoming more efficient and in an immediate sense that's true our lives are better in many ways. But that improvement has been gained through a massively inefficient use of natural resources.

The only way forward if we are going to improve the quality of the environment is to get everybody involved.

Enhancing revenues will help us improve education and solve our infrastructure problems.

Education is the silver bullet to improve this Nation's standing worldwide... and our teachers know that.

The government has convinced parents that at some point it's no longer their responsibility. And in fact they force them in many respects to turn their children over to the public education system and wrest control from them and block them out of participation of that. That has to change or education will not improve in this country.

The real solution is to improve the incomes of the poor and provide their children with decent education.
