A film is - or should be - more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme what's behind the emotion the meaning all that comes later.

Countries have lost their culture because what they wanted was money. Money became the running theme in every country and culture was sacrificed.

Love is the ultimate theme but it's not just for women.

And indeed this theme has been at the centre of all my research since 1943 both because of its intrinsic fascination and my conviction that a knowledge of sequences could contribute much to our understanding of living matter.

The truth is often terrifying which I think is one of the motifs of Larry and Andrew's cinema. The cost of knowledge is an important theme. In the second and third films they explore the consequences of Neo's choice to know the truth. It's a beautiful beautiful story.

Lyrically I like to use themes that make the listener use his or her imagination and to give a little of the lessons I've learned in my own life.

Wherever my story takes me however dark and difficult the theme there is always some hope and redemption not because readers like happy endings but because I am an optimist at heart. I know the sun will rise in the morning that there is a light at the end of every tunnel.

The aging of the U.S. population is a theme that we believe strongly in and the health care sector is really right in the bulls eye of this particular theme.

My theme is going to be: Together we can win the future. The right policies lead to the right results. And I'm going to argue that President Obama will lose the future because the wrong policies lead to the wrong results.

And of course Marc Cherry heightens it and makes it hilarious. But there's so many universal themes in the show and he made it so funny. We knew he was onto something if he could keep it up and thankfully he did.
