I'm one of the great unemployed looking for the next job. I'm waiting for the right offer. Like anyone I want something that turns me on inside.

It's a great thing when you can show that you've been successful and that you've made a lot of money and that you've employed a lot of people.

Under the administration of George W. Bush you will recall federal spending grew pretty significantly. At the same time the number of people directly employed by the federal government shrank. One of the factors that explained the difference was contracting.

In a very weak economy when you say 'cut government spending ' what you mean is you're laying off school teachers and you're de-funding various programs that put money into the economy. This means you have more unemployed people that then draw unemployment benefits and don't pay taxes.

We don't need new taxes. We need new taxpayers people that are gainfully employed making money and paying into the tax system. And then we need a government that has the discipline to take that additional revenue and use it to pay down the debt and never grow it again.

Look how many millions of people are underemployed or have lost their jobs. The last thing I'm going to do is play politics with their future.

The subject of criminal rehabilitation was debated recently in City Hall. It's an appropriate place for this kind of discussion because the city has always employed so many ex-cons and future cons.

We think there's a good case for doing it now. We want to do it in an overall fiscally responsible way.
