During last night's debate John Kerry and John Edwards were so friendly to each other some political experts think that they may end up running together. In fact Kerry and Edwards were so friendly President Bush accused them of planning a gay marriage.

Culture what you believe what you value how you live matters. Now as fundamental as these principles are they may become topics of democratic debates from time to time so it is today with the enduring institution of marriage. Marriage is a relationship between a man and a woman.

I love argument I love debate. I don't expect anyone just to sit there and agree with me that's not their job.

Today the people from my State of Tennessee would listen to this debate or even talk about a reference to God on our money or in the Halls of Congress or in our Pledge and say please let common sense and logic win the day and prevail versus legal mumbo jumbo.

I've led a school whose faculty and students examine and discuss and debate every aspect of our law and legal system. And what I've learned most is that no one has a monopoly on truth or wisdom. I've learned that we make progress by listening to each other across every apparent political or ideological divide.

Upon the Constitution upon the pre-existing legal rights of the People as understood in this country and in England I have argued that this House is bound to revive the Petition under debate.

As Congress continues to debate ways to address illegal immigration we must remember the many hard-working legal immigrants that contribute so much to our nation's economy and culture.

So I'd be quite happy to have a three-hour Lincoln-Douglas-style debate with Barack Obama. I'd let him use a teleprompter. I'll just rely on knowledge. We'll do fine.
