Television has spread the habit of instant reaction and stimulated the hope of instant results.

I had a huge advantage when I started 50 years ago - my job was secure. I didn't have to promote myself. These days there's far more pressure to make a mark so the temptation is to make adventure television or personality shows. I hope the more didactic approach won't be lost.

I can only speak for myself and hope people hear my words and see me on television speaking for myself. And hopefully they'll be able to make their own judgment. And at the end of the day I just want my work to speak for itself.

To my great disappointment it appears that the politics of division are making a big comeback. Many Americans share my disappointment - especially those who were filled with great hope a few years ago when then-Senator Obama announced his candidacy in Springfield Illinois.

You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply with greater vision with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.

Where there is no vision there is no hope.

Sometimes I do envision just being a stay at home mom but not working isn't an option for me currently.

Like most citizens of popular and international urban centres I don't take advantage of the cultural opportunities. Perhaps this comes from growing up in suburbia. Home is where you eat sleep read watch television and ignore your parents. It is not where you go to the ballet and then attend a heated panel discussion about it afterwards.

Television is an invention that permits you to be entertained in your living room by people you wouldn't have in your home.

Why should people go out and pay money to see bad films when they can stay at home and see bad television for nothing?
