I have no idea how to get in touch with anyone anymore. Everyone it seems has a home phone a cell phone a regular e-mail account a Facebook account a Twitter account and a Web site. Some of them also have a Google Voice number. There are the sentimental few who still have fax machines.

It would be incredibly presumptuous and self-serving of me to believe that Facebook was the end of history. The only way it could possibly be the end of history is if it becomes some sort of artificial super intelligence that takes over the world.

Facebook now is mostly about people you know. In the future it could be about people you know less but are more important.

I don't need to go onto Facebook and pretend to have friends I've never even met. To my mind that kind of destroys the meaning of the word 'friend.' I take exception to that. Because I value and respect friendship.

The fear of the never-ending onslaught of gizmos and gadgets is nothing new. The radio the telephone Facebook - each of these inventions changed the world. Each of them scared the heck out of an older generation. And each of them was invented by people who were in their 20s.

Think about what people are doing on Facebook today. They're keeping up with their friends and family but they're also building an image and identity for themselves which in a sense is their brand. They're connecting with the audience that they want to connect to. It's almost a disadvantage if you're not on it now.

I can't say I'm not grateful to have journalists writing about me as a genius. But I know it's not true. I'm not confused. I understand that success comes through a lot of failure and a lot of very embarrassing failure. People want to create the next Facebook but they are too afraid to create the next Facemash.

My career was full of struggles and dreams disappointments and peaks and valleys. But there was no Twitter no Facebook or TMZ. Young actors could make mistakes and not become the focus of tabloids.

People spend hours constantly checking and tweeting and Facebooking. And it's cool to check up on your friends and see what's going on in the world but it's not cool to spend five hours of your day on the computer looking at the Internet.

Even in high school I had friends that I didn't know were gay until years later. I'd find out on Facebook or something and be like 'Oh that explains some things ' or 'Wow no wonder they were so cool.'
