Acceptable food rots while we are chased from bins behind restaurants chased from sleeping on the street chased from relieving ourselves unless we pay for food or gas until finally we are so hungry sleepless smelly constipated and beaten-down that we simply die of lack of will to live.

I grew up in a family that was multifaceted sexually oriented and pretty much open to everything. And because I was working my friends were all adults. I had a tough time going to different schools because people knew me from films and I was the fat child who got beaten up every day.

The impulse to dream was slowly beaten out of me by experience. Now it surged up again and I hungered for books new ways of looking and seeing.

Luckily I don't have to buy shoes anymore because I design them! I'm off tour so I can dive in and create the shoes that I want for my line. But okay I did buy a pair of vintage combat boots because they were so beaten up - I had to have them.

As a reward for their efforts however those early Christians were beaten stoned to death thrown to the lions tortured and crucified. Every conceivable method was used to stop them from talking.

Having been to Europe and working and traveling there the restaurants my wife and I remember were always off the beaten trail restaurants. So I tried to seek a little 'off the beaten trail ' but cool area.

I remember at the age of five travelling on a trolley car with my mother past a group of women on a picket line at a textile plant seeing them being viciously beaten by security people. So that kind of thing stayed with me.
