To make a love story you need a couple of young people but to reflect on the nature of love you're better off with old ones. That is a fact of life and literature - and of the novel ever since it fell in love with love in the 18th century.

Our job is to represent the truth of human nature whether you're playing a tender love story that's set in a coffee shop or whether you're in 'The Avengers ' which is set in a Manhattan which is exploding.

I don't listen to a lot of new stuff. I just like the old stuff. It's all quite dramatic and atmospheric. You'd have an entire story in song. I never listen to like white music - I couldn't sing you a Zeppelin or Floyd song.

I find that movies tend to fix the aesthetics of a story in people's minds.

I'm a big kid I'm a kid at heart so I still love the classic family films such as the great Warner Bros film 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' - not the remake but the original. It's still one of the best movies hands down ever made and of course that goes back to the ingenuity of the characters and the storyline.

I think everyone who makes movies should be forced to do television. Because you have to finish. You have to get it done and there are a lot of decisions made just for the sake of making decisions. You do something because it's efficient and because it gets the story told and it connects to the audience.

Frank is such a great visual storyteller that if you study his artwork you see that his Sin City books are already the best movies never seen on the big screen.

I don't enjoy movies in 3D. I find I can't engage with the story as well.

The way I look at it movies are a different medium for storytelling than books.

You can't work in the movies. Movies are all about lighting. Very few filmmakers will concentrate on the story. You get very little rehearsal time so anything you do onscreen is a kind of speed painting.
