Pervading nationalism imposes its dominion on man today in many different forms and with an aggressiveness that spares no one. The challenge that is already with us is the temptation to accept as true freedom what in reality is only a new form of slavery.
The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our own good in our own way so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs or impede their efforts to obtain it.
When I am able to resist the temptation to judge others I can see them as teachers of forgiveness in my life reminding me that I can only have peace of mind when I forgive rather than judge.
Once a food becomes off-limits then it takes on this whole other personality. 'Forbidden' is more tempting. And it becomes something evil but food is food. It's there to nourish your body.
Temptation is like a knife that may either cut the meat or the throat of a man it may be his food or his poison his exercise or his destruction.
I'm tempted by everything. My husband makes fun of me because every day it's a new food that I love. I have a weakness for butterscotch pudding ice cream in any flavor and dark chocolate although that's one thing I do keep in my house - 70% dark chocolate.
A lot of food shows need only to tempt. Some food shows only need to inspire to empower. And there are a lot of shows that do that.
I fear it's because religion is man's attempt to reach God and when he feels he has succeeded he cannot abide anyone else's claim to have done the same.
Although I am deeply grateful to a great many people I forgo the temptation of naming them for fear that I might slight any by omission.
Resistance is feasible even for those who are not heroes by nature and it is an obligation I believe for those who fear the consequences and detest the reality of the attempt to impose American hegemony.
