Religious faith depends on a host of social psychological and emotional factors that have little or nothing to do with probabilities evidence and logic.

For me the peculiar qualities of faith are a logical outcome of this level of biological organization.

If we were logical the future would be bleak indeed. But we are more than logical. We are human beings and we have faith and we have hope and we can work.

Faith may be defined briefly as an illogical belief in the occurrence of the improbable.

The great thing about baseball is the causality is easy to determine and it always falls on the shoulders of one person. So there is absolute responsibility. That's why baseball is psychologically the cruelest sport and why it really requires psychological resources to play baseball - because you have to learn to live with failure.

Before success comes in any man's life he's sure to meet with much temporary defeat and perhaps some failures. When defeat overtakes a man the easiest and the most logical thing to do is to quit. That's exactly what the majority of men do.

Dramatic experience is not logical it may be subdued to the kind of coherence that we indicate when we speak in criticism of form.

Just as we accumulate memories of facts by integrating them into a network we accumulate life experiences by integrating them into a web of other chronological memories. The denser the web the denser the experience of time.

The printed page conveys information and commitment and requires active involvement. Television conveys emotion and experience and it's very limited in what it can do logically. It's an existential experience - there and then gone.

Being a biological mother just isn't part of my experience this time around. However I am a mother who continues to give birth to ideas and ways of experiencing life that challenge the norm.
