In a very weak economy when you say 'cut government spending ' what you mean is you're laying off school teachers and you're de-funding various programs that put money into the economy. This means you have more unemployed people that then draw unemployment benefits and don't pay taxes.

The Federal Government should be the last resort not the first. Ask if a potential program is truly a federal responsibility or whether it can better be handled privately by voluntary organizations or by local or state governments.

Nothing is so permanent as a temporary government program.

Free enterprise has done more to lift people out of poverty to help build a strong middle class to help educate our kids and to make our lives better than all the programs of government combined.

No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs once launched never disappear. Actually a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth!

It is practically impossible to teach good programming to students that have had a prior exposure to BASIC: as potential programmers they are mentally mutilated beyond hope of regeneration.

Many talk about a guest worker program. I think most reasonable people believe that a guest worker program in the farming industry perhaps in the gardening and landscape industries is reasonable.

My duty as a teacher is to train educate future programmers.

The debt-ceiling vote isn't about what will be done in the future it is about the integrity of America's commitment to support the bonds we issue. Elected officials have an obligation to maintain that integrity regardless of whether they voted for the programs that required the borrowing in the first place.

I launched The Emeril Lagasse Foundation to provide culinary training and developmental and educational programs to children in the cities where my restaurants operate. I think everyone has a responsibility to give back to the community if they can and to help future generations learn new skills.
