It is after all the responsibility of the expert to operate the familiar and that of the leader to transcend it.

Harvard is first and foremost a university and not a consulting operation and our job here is to teach and to research and to create knowledge on Asia in conjunction and in cooperation with scholars as well as with political intellectual and cultural leaders in Asia.

Each co-operative institution will become a school of business in which each member will acquire a knowledge of the laws of trade and commerce.

Knowledge is generally considered a good thing so presumably knowing more about how the U.S. thinks and operates around the world is also good.

We worked to develop our own operations to advance U.S. counterterrorism objectives by penetrating terrorist safe havens and collecting intelligence that would inform policy and enable our own operations.

Well our position and our chairman has talked about this extensively is that we had a lot of intelligence prior to 9/11. We knew that two al Qaeda operatives who ultimately participated in the 9/11 disaster were in the United States. We didn't find them.

My understanding is that what was provided was general order of battle information not operational intelligence. I certainly have no knowledge of US participation in preparing battle and strike packages and doubt strongly that that occurred.

They have involved co-operation between the Iraqi intelligence and al-Qaeda operatives on training and combined operations regarding bomb making and chemical and biological weapons.

When I resigned I put the U.S. Government on notice that I'm going to stick to policy issues that I have no intention of going out and blowing the cover off of the intelligence operations that those are truly sensitive and they should not be exposed.
