The Bush Administration's failure to be consistently involved in helping Israel achieve peace with the Palestinians has been both wrong for our friendship with Israel as well as badly damaging to our standing in the Arab world.

Bringing an end to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians may help the young Arab generation to realise their aspirations. Israel is more than willing to offer our experience in building a modern economy in spite of limited resources to the whole region.

During my travels in Iraq Israel Gaza Brazil Indonesia Japan Europe and all over the United States I have seen and heard the voices of people who want change. They want the stabilization of the economy education and healthcare for all renewable energy and an environmental vision with an eye on generations to come.

Our law is a Jordanian law that we inherited which applies to both the West Bank and Gaza and sets the death penalty for those who sell land to Israelis.

But there is a difference here: When Jewish children are murdered Arabs celebrate the deed. The death of an Arab child is no cause for celebration in Israel.

You don't have people chanting 'Death to America' in Israel.

You don't have any communication between the Israelis and the Iranians. You have all sorts of local triggers for conflict. Having countries act on a hair trigger - where they can't afford to be second to strike - the potential for a miscalculation or a nuclear war through inadvertence is simply too high.

We may need to change the way we think. As in Israel I think there should be a mandatory draft where you go away for the service of your country for three years.

It is time to change our policy of appeasement toward the Palestinians to strengthen our ties with the nation of Israel.

Let me be absolutely clear. Israel is a strong friend of Israel's. It will be a strong friend of Israel's under a McCain administration. It will be a strong friend of Israel's under an Obama administration. So that policy is not going to change.
