'Thank you power' is writing down the moments that are good in your life so that you can go back and reflect on them - so you've got this sort of repository of good stuff in your past.
I'm not after fame and success and fortune and power. It's mostly that I want to have a good job and have good friends that's the good stuff in life.
No matter what you're going through as long as you have some specific emotion whether it's positive or negative it is all stuff that you can use on stage.
My wife was the first romantic partner who understood both American and native parts of me - not so much the positive stuff but the damage.
I've noticed that my resolutions involve me not doing stuff that I wasn't going to do anyway so here's something more positive. I'm going to retrain as a Latin teacher in a provincial public school.
I just want to put some positive stuff out there. If it works great. If it doesn't no problem.
I don't personally try to balance my work because I operate under the assumption that anyone reading or watching my stuff isn't having a particularly balanced day anyway. But negative attitudes just amuse me more than positive ones.
When people ask me about my story I just go through the positive stuff: the tent-pole moments the big landmark checkpoints.
If it's great stuff the people who consume it are nourished. It's a positive force.
When I first started working in politics as a junior aide on Walter Mondale's 1984 presidential campaign it never occurred to me that I would one day work in the White House. There were plenty of women among the volunteers who stuffed envelopes and walked precincts. But there were fewer and fewer on each successive level of influence and access.
