I'm not really interested in sports psychology. It makes me feel like a crazy person.

I sort of try to write everything for me. I'm a huge sports fan but have no interest in minutiae. I don't remember who won Super Bowls five years ago or listen to sports talk radio. I'm trying to make sure the jokes are self-contained so they're accessible to everyone.

I just think that sports movies have such a built-in visceral rooting interest an epic win or lose redemptive quality. When they get it right it can make for a really rousing movie experience.

I also developed an interest in sports and played in informal games at a nearby school yard where the neighborhood children met to play touch football baseball basketball and occasionally ice hockey.

I grew up in New Jersey and my father was a golf pro so I was groomed for sports but I wasn't very good so my interests lay elsewhere.

But at the core I always say to myself 'Is there a story here? Is this something people want to read?'

I had no interest in sports so I didn't make friends in that traditional way where kids are in public school and they go and they join clubs and play sports. So I kind of had to find my own way to make friends and get attention and so I just was the class clown.

Soccer and cricket were my main sports growing up. I had trials as a soccer player with a few clubs interested Crystal Palace being one but it was cricket which became my chosen profession.
