Disappointment over nationalistic authoritarian regimes may have contributed to the fact that today religion offers a new and subjectively more convincing language for old political orientations.

While I don't often use the word the technically precise term for my orientation is bisexual. I believe bisexuality is not a choice it is a fact. What I have 'chosen' is to be in a gay relationship.

I say the law should be blind to race gender and sexual orientation just as it claims to be blind to wealth and power. There should be no specially protected groups of any kind except for children the severely disabled and the elderly whose physical frailty demands society's care.

But I think it's quite clear in my work that my orientation isn't political or doesn't come out of modern politics.

The criteria for serving one's country should be competence courage and willingness to serve. When we deny people the chance to serve because of their sexual orientation we deprive them of their rights of citizenship and we deprive our armed forces the service of willing and capable Americans.

I went to engineering school which I thought was what I wanted to do for about two weeks. We had an orientation class and we met this guy where he worked and stuff and it was cool but I was like 'There is no way this is going to be my life.'
