There are few things in which we deceive ourselves more than in the esteem we profess to entertain for our firends. It is little better than a piece of quackery. The truth is we think of them as we please that is as they please or displease us.
That you may retain your self-respect it is better to displease the people by doing what you know is right than to temporarily please them by doing what you know is wrong.
If we have been pleased with life we should not be displeased with death since it comes from the hand of the same master.
