I do not believe that politics in the long run is about individuals. It is about ideas.

Republicans have nothing but bad ideas and Democrats have no ideas.

In poetry you must love the words the ideas and the images and rhythms with all your capacity to love anything at all.

I never thought I'd be doing poetry books. I never really studied poetry. But the first one I did was after my mother died and I realized that people sort of think and talk about her style and fashion but in fact what made her the person she was was really her love of reading and ideas.

Poetry is really a way of sharing feelings and ideas.

But I liked Yeats! That wild Irishman. I really loved his love of language his flow. His chaotic ideas seemed to me just the right thing for a poet. Passion! He was always on the right side. He may be wrongheaded but his heart was always on the right side. He wrote beautiful poetry.

Pure mathematics is in its way the poetry of logical ideas.

You don't make a poem with ideas but with words.

Poetry is ordinary language raised to the Nth power. Poetry is boned with ideas nerved and blooded with emotions all held together by the delicate tough skin of words.

Good ideas are not adopted automatically. They must be driven into practice with courageous patience.
