The novel succeeds on terms exclusive to literature. A good film succeeds on terms exclusive to the cinema. That's why so many bad novels can become good movies like 'Jaws' or 'The Godfather.'
There must be something solemn serious and tender about any attitude which we denominate religious. If glad it must not grin or snicker if sad it must not scream or curse.
